Fenton, Brighton, and Howell, Michigan, drivers desire the versatility, capability, and glamour of the Ram 1500. With eight trim levels, though, which version should you pick?

LaFontaine Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (CDJR) of Fenton created this trim levels review to help you decide among the Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX. Let’s start shopping!

Ram 1500 Engines and Performance

The Ram 1500 can be equipped with three diverse engines. Under the hood, the standard 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine with eTorque appears in the majority of trims, including the Tradesman through Limited Longhorn. This engine produces 305 horsepower with 273 lb-ft of torque, which enables a truck to tow up to 7,730 pounds when properly equipped.

If you’re seeking more power, you can get the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine with eTorque in the Tradesman and Big Horn through Limited as an option. With this engine, you can pump out 395 horsepower with 410 lb-ft of torque. The maximum towing capacity with this engine tops the charts with 12,750 pounds.

Only one trim receives the 6.2L Supercharged HEMI® V8 engine—the TRX. If you choose this Ram trim, it gallops out with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. You can tow a maximum of 8,100 pounds, too.

Ram 1500 Seating

What kind of comfort and upholstery do you want for your seating in the Ram 1500? This truck provides a wide range of options. Let’s start with the upholstery.

Seven types of materials can furnish your seats. Cloth, deluxe cloth, leather trim, leather/vinyl, luxury leather trim, premium leather, and premium quilted leather make up the list. The Big Horn and TRX come with cloth, while deluxe cloth is available for the Big Horn.

Leather trim adorns the Limited Longhorn, and it's an option for the Laramie trim. Leather-vinyl combined seats may be chosen for the Laramie and Rebel trims or luxury leather trim for the Rebel. If you prefer premium leather, select the Limited Longhorn or upgrade to the premium quilted leather for the Limited trim.

Ram 1500 Touchscreen Displays

Screens for the center touchscreen display come in three different sizes to accommodate your needs. The Tradesman through Big Horn trims feature the introductory Uconnect® 3 with a 5-inch display.

Two separate 8.4-inch touchscreen displays can either be powered by the Uconnect® 5 or Uconnect® 5 NAV system. If you’re interested in the former, it’s available for the Big Horn through Rebel trims. In the Limited Longhorn through TRX trims, you’ll find the latter.

The largest touchscreen, the 12-inch display, gives you the most visibility and can be found in the Limited Longhorn through TRX trims. It also can be selected for the Big Horn through Rebel trims.

Ram 1500 Storage

The available RamBox® Cargo Management System supplies you with bins located on the sides of the truck bed. They’re lockable, so you can count on them to keep your valuable tools safe in your Ram 1500. They’re also weather-proof, so you can store items that must be kept out of the elements.

If you’re storing wet tarps or sodden life jackets, put them in the bins. They provide drainage holes to release the liquid as you drive.
